GEORGE COWDEN IV
A sixth-generation Texan and fourth-generation lawyer
George Cowden IV is a trial lawyer who has dedicated his career to representing individuals in personal injury and wrongful death cases. George has significant experience in a wide variety of personal injury matters including automotive product liability, consumer product liability, eighteen-wheeler collisions, motor vehicle collisions, dram shop liability, oil-field injuries, and aviation accidents. In 2019, George founded the Cowden Law Firm in Tyler, Texas, as a boutique litigation practice concentrating on personal injury and wrongful death cases.
Much of the firm's practice focuses on automotive product liability cases, which include rollovers, airbag and restraint failures, backseat collapses, tire defects, child car-seat defects, post-collision fuel-fed fires, and other forms of crashworthiness. Before starting his own firm, George worked for a plaintiff’s personal injury firm that focused on automotive product liability. There he gained valuable experience litigating numerous product liability cases in state and federal courts across the country, one of which included uncovering a wide-spread defect that resulted in a nationwide recall.
At the Cowden Law Firm, George handles cases in state and federal courts throughout the country. Based in East Texas, he has extensive experience appearing in the United States District Courts of the Eastern District of Texas. Throughout his career, George has successfully represented clients against major automobile manufacturers, car-seat companies, and other product suppliers. He commonly represents clients with catastrophic injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, quadriplegia, and paraplegia. In addition to his selection to the Rising Stars list, he is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, president of the Smith County Young Lawyers Association, and a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. George is a third-generation graduate of Baylor law school, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. At Baylor Law, George received the Top Overall Speaker award in the annual intra-school moot court competition, was on the state champion mock trial team, and was a member of the Order of the Barristers.

However, George represents clients in state and federal courts all across the country and has been admitted pro hac vice in many states, including Arkansas, California, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, and Oklahoma.
George is a proud graduate of Baylor Law School. Commonly referred to as “the boot camp of law schools,” Baylor Law’s trial advocacy program is consistently ranked as one of the best in the country. As a law student, George developed a passion for oral advocacy in the court room and he was heavily involved in moot court and mock trial competition. His accomplishments at Baylor Law include Top Overall Speaker in the annual Dawson & Sodd, P.C. moot court competition, State Champion of the American Association for Justice mock trial competition, and the Strasburger & Price, LLP Mock Trial Award (recognizing him as an outstanding advocate). George was also honored to be a member of the Dean’s List, the Order of Barristers, and the Baylor Law Ambassadors.
Prior to law school, he worked at My Brother’s Keeper homeless shelter in Waco, Texas, at an advertising agency in New York, New York, and as a European tour guide. These diverse experiences help George connect with people from different walks of life and give him a unique perspective that he brings to every case. When he is not practicing law, George enjoys the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his wife and three children.
